Barrus will be showcasing a number of Yanmar marine engines at Seawork 2015. Reliability, durability and efficiency are the trademarks of the Yanmar marine diesel engine range, making it the engine of choice for a wide range of commercial applications including offshore support vessels, fishing craft, ferries, tugs and multi-purpose workboats.

The Yanmar 6LY440, 5.813 litre, common rail engine will be making its UK debut at Seawork. Rated 440hp @ 3,300 rpm, this engine is ISO8665 compliant and meets the US EPA Tier 3 and RCD Tier 2 emission regulations that become effective in 2016. Also available as the 6LY400, this new model will be released next year. The smaller Yanmar 4JH110, 2-litre common rail engine will also be on the stand. Rated 110hp @ 3,200 rpm, this engine is suitable for applications including small workboats and harbour launches.

The Yanmar Commercial High-Speed engines have a power range from 12hp (8.8kW) to 911hp (670kW), with the 6-cylinder, 6HYM-WET Series being particularly suited to fast patrol boats. These engines offer full mechanical control along with a purpose-built marine design, long service intervals and the minimum of special tools needed. The 6HYM-WET, rated 500hp @ 1950 rpm will be on display. Compliant with all European emissions standards, this engine range also meets the latest IMO Tier II regulations, and Yanmar has type approval by the six major shipping classification societies including, LRS, ABS, and BV.

The 6HYM-WET was chosen by Tecnimar, a maritime company that provides pilot and other related services to assist vessels in the arrival and departure from major Colombian ports in Cartagena, Coveñas and Tumaco. A set of 650hp HYM engines were installed in a new pilot/crew boat, MALMO. The propulsion package included marine gears ZF325-1 ratio 1.05 and Hamilton WaterJets. When asked why the company chose Yanmar, Roberto Cavelier, General Manager for Tecnimar said, “Yanmar has a very good global reputation for reliability, so it made sense to install the 6HYM engines when we found that their compact design fit perfectly in our boats.” A repeat order by Tecnimar proved testament to the success of the application with a second pilot/crew boat, VIKINGA, featuring the same engines.

The smooth and powerful Yanmar 8LV, 4.46-litre, twin-turbo, V8 diesel engine will be on show. The 8LV, rated 370hp @ 3800 rpm is coupled to a stern drive, and a key feature of this high torque engine is its wide power band. Additional benefits include exceptionally low noise levels and reduced vibration, ease of installation and servicing. This engine is powering the distinctive black and yellow adrenaline packed Thames RIB Experience boats operating on The Thames. “The solution of swapping to Yanmar with our existing fleet and also installing the same kit on our 2014 vessel, increased the engine size on our boats to 750hp, ensuring that we continue to give our passengers the top performing propulsion driven RIBs in Central London on the River Thames,” comments Charlotte Thompson-McGlinchey, Director of Thames RIB Experience.
