Barrus on show at Seawork 2006

The Special Products Division of E.P. Barrus Ltd, custom engineer products to a Zero Defect build specification for life dependant organisations including the RNLI, H.M Coastguard, MoD and the Royal Navy.

Introduced for the first time at Seawork, is the Mariner 30hp rescue engine fitted with the Pump Jet advanced design propulsion system, developed by ACT Inc. Marine Propulsion Division, Orlando, USA. Intended specifically for commercial users the Pump Jet has vastly superior performance over the standard propeller guard. The forward-looking orientation of the Pump Jet allows 100% of the power to go into propelling the boat. Originally designed for hurricane relief, the Pump Jet effectively reduces the risk of personal injury due to contact from the conventional open propeller. E.P. Barrus are currently working with Avon Inflatables to produce a complete rescue package for the emergency services that would combine a rapid inflatable boat with a safe outboard engine.

The F44 engine is a trial multi fuel 50hp outboard designed and developed for the UK MoD capable of running on four NATO fuels, including NATO F34 AVTUR (JP8), NATO F44 AVCAT (JP5), NATO F67 (Gasoline – unleaded) and NATO F76 (Diesel – Naval). This engine has been modified by E.P. Barrus Ltd under licence from the UK Ministry of Defence.

Designed specifically for commercial users who have applications requiring emission compliant engines, the 15hp LPG outboard engine, is a fully modified, transportable option.

A diesel powered Barrus supplied salt-water pump will be on show, which is an integral part of the RNLI all weather lifeboat fleet. Powered by Yanmar, the pump has a maximum flow of 175GPM and weighs just 37kg.

Utilised by the HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopters is a 2” trash pump designed with a lightweight, air portable frame that can be used for salvage, firefighting and general pumping. The pump weighs just 48kg and has a maximum flow of 170 GPM.

E.P Barrus are constantly designing, developing and improving the operation and performance of their products to keep in the forefront of rescue technology.

The Marine Division of E.P Barrus Ltd, will be showing a selection of fuel-efficient Mariner OptiMax outboard engines. With awesome acceleration and staggering top-end speed, clean, fuel saving operation, OptiMax is the perfect choice for almost any use.

Inboard engines will include the Shire workboat engine range and John Deere engines from 50hp to 562hp, plus a representative range of Yanmar and MerCruiser marine engines.

Barrus supplied engines can also be seen on the pontoons on South Boats HSAW RIB, Avon Searider 7.6m and Avon Searider 5.4D.
