Seawork 2019 - Review
Published on: 17/06/2019
Seawork 2019 saw Barrus showcase a range of commercially focused inboard and outboard engines from market-leading brands such as Mariner, Mercury, Yanmar and John Deere. These engines have proved themselves in the toughest conditions to be robust, efficient and durable.
The dedicated team of specialists in the Special Products Division is recognised globally for the design and development of custom-built inboard and outboard marine engines and, following the successful launch of the award-winning Capsize PIRS® technology, has extended its patented platform to the lower horsepower family. The new 60hp four-stroke engine development was displayed upside down on the Barrus stand at the show to showcase its capabilities.
Exclusive in the industry, all outboard engines supplied by Barrus between 20hp – 150hp are SOLAS approved and some PIRS® engines also meet the LSA code for fast rescue boats. The Special Products team have the knowledge and experience to offer technical advice and support on any of the products to ensure the most appropriate power is chosen for each specific application.
The Yanmar DTorque 111 twin-cylinder 50hp diesel outboard engine was displayed both on the Barrus stand at Seawork and on the water with positive feedback on its performance and capabilities. Interested parties could have a demo ride out from the pontoon and experience the stunning torque output of 111Nm at just 2500rpm. As the world’s smallest diesel outboard engine with common-rail fuel injection, the DTorque 111 has an expected lifespan of well over 10,000 hours whilst ensuring fewer refuelling stops and lower running costs.
In addition to the inboard and outboard engines that Barrus is well-known for, two Marine Equipment brands were also supported on the Barrus stand for the first time this year: Besto Lifesavers and Barton Marine equipment. In addition to Barton’s range of commercial products being on display, the company sponsored the Women in Marine Industry event on Wednesday 12thJune which attracted a number of women from across the industry to share their experiences.
