Published on: 26/09/2018
2018 marked the 50th year of the Southampton Boat Show, where Barrus has been the most long- standing exhibitor attending a remarkable 49 of them!
Here’s a review of this special year summarising some of the highlights across our four stands, and on the water.
For the first time the newly acquired chandlery brands Talamex and Besto lifesavers were on display for Barrus in the Marine Hall. The line-up for Talamex included a mix of technical and non-technical products suitable for sailing boats, motor boats and inflatables and a comprehensive range of life-jackets and buoyancy aids on the Besto stand.
Over on the Quicksilver boat stand the Activ and Captur Pilothouse ranges were showcased. The versatile and sporty Activ 555 Open proved to be a popular choice with visitors as well as the new Bowrider range which made their debut at the show.
This year all of the boats were dressed for the occasion inspiring customers with colourful and stylish interiors, one boat even came with its own toy dog who has been affectionately named ‘Tally’ and soon became one of the main attractions on the stand!
The next-generation Mercury outboards made their UK debut on stand E069 offering a multiple line-up of Verado, FourStroke, Pro XS and SeaPro V-6 and V-8 models ranging from 175-300hp.
Mercury continues to expand its outboard and marine engine technology through a range of innovative systems. On display were Mercury Active Trim, an RPM and GPS based control system delivering instant and effortless automatic trim. Plus Mercury VesselView, the next generation multifunction premier engine information display system which provides more information and data on boat and engine functions than any other system in the boating industry.
Mercury and Mariner Outboard Engines proved they are an ever-popular choice of engine and made a great visual line-up, powering a number of boats along the pontoon.
The 10.2m Cheetah vessel built for Yorkshire and The Humber (YATH) Police Regional Underwater Search and Marine Unit powered by twin 300hp V-8 Mercury Verado outboards was of particular interest with the crowds.
Rounding off another successful year of the show the annual party was held on the main Barrus stand, giving staff and dealers time to network and discuss business over a well-earned drink.
We look forward to seeing you at our 50th Southampton Boat Show in 2019!
