Barrus Transport Fleet has an overhaul.
Published on: 27/11/2018
Ideally situated at the heart of the country’s motorway system, Barrus is able to provide an excellent distribution service to customers throughout the UK and Ireland with a transport fleet operated and driven by the company’s own professional team.
In addition to completing approximately 18 deliveries per day, the Transport Team supports all Barrus divisions by transferring goods from the warehouse to the main site and workshops, as well as delivering display product to over 30 show venues around the country each year.
Earlier this year, Barrus took delivery of three new tractor units, DAF XF 430 FT MX13 4X2 Super Space Cabs, which allow the Transport Team to enter emission controlled zones launching around the UK in 2019. The new fleet provides an improvement in fuel efficiency of up to 7% and combined with market-leading telematics, a fleet management system, there is a real-time insight into driver and vehicle efficiency.
In addition to new cabs, Barrus has also replaced its existing fleet of truck mounted forklifts with three new Loadmac 825 iSR (integrated Second Reach) 3.1 models. The Loadmacs are powered by Yanmar 4TNV88-BDYE 49hp diesel engines supplied by the Barrus Industrial Division and designed to meet Barrus’s need for a higher-than-standard lift capacity without compromising size and weight.
To complete the new fleet, six new curtainsiders and two box trailers have been designed and delivered to give the trailers a facelift and represent all divisions when out on the road.
Built and supplied by SDC, the curtainsider trailers have been totally re-designed with new technologies and updates to the axle spread and Kingpin position which has enhanced the combined handling of the truck, trailer and Loadmac forklift.
The box trailers are ideal for supporting the divisions at shows and events throughout the year, and the smaller, urban box trailer ensures the Transport Team are able to assist with transporting and building up demonstration equipment for the dealer network company-wide.
“The commercial transport fleet has been completely updated and we are now equipped to meet new legislation and improve our customer service levels,” commented Rob Malone, Transport Manager E. P. Barrus Ltd.
“With top-level equipment that not only looks spectacular but is also operated by highly trained, professional drivers, we now have the capability to meet and grow the company’s transport requirement over the next few years,” Rob concluded.
