Lee Allen Appointed Commercial Manager at Barrus
Barrus has appointed Lee Allen as Commercial Manager for its Marine Division, bringing a blend of technical expertise and commercial insight to support the company’s continued growth in an evolving marine market.
Lee’s appointment comes at a time of significant change across the sector, as propulsion technology, digital integration and sustainability reshape customer expectations and product development. His career path reflects this shift, combining hands-on boatbuilding experience with strategic sales leadership.
Before joining Barrus in 2023 as an Area Sales Manager, Lee spent nearly a decade in boat manufacturing, including his role as Production Manager for a British boatbuilder. There, he worked across the full build process, from concept through to final assembly, developing a deep understanding of how engineering, supply chains and commercial decisions intersect.
“Understanding operational reality is essential when making commercial decisions. A strong sales strategy only works if production can deliver it consistently and without compromising quality.”
— Lee Allen, Commercial Manager
In his new role, Lee is responsible for driving commercial strategy across Barrus’ Marine Division, spanning leisure propulsion, diesel engines and marine equipment. A key focus is aligning the company’s technical capabilities with rapidly changing market demands.
One of the most notable shifts, he says, is the growing integration of onboard technologies. “The marine market is moving towards more connected and integrated technologies,” Lee notes. “Owners now expect remote diagnostics, digital control and seamless system integration as standard.”
Alongside this, sustainability is becoming an increasingly important driver. The rise of electric and hybrid propulsion systems reflects demand for more efficient, lower-impact solutions, particularly within leisure boating.
Lee also highlights a broader change in the customer base. “A younger, more technology-focused demographic is entering the market with different expectations around ease of use, sustainability and digital interaction,” he says.
Barrus is responding by strengthening supplier partnerships, investing in digital platforms such as MyBoat247, and ensuring dealers and boatbuilders are supported in integrating increasingly complex systems.
While Barrus is widely known as a distributor, Lee is keen to emphasise the company’s deeper role within the industry. “Barrus is sometimes perceived purely as a distributor,” he says. “But in reality we play a much more technical role, supporting propulsion integration, advising dealers and helping customers navigate complex engineering decisions.”
This technical expertise, combined with long-standing partnerships with global manufacturers, positions Barrus as a key partner to the marine industry as systems become more sophisticated and interconnected.
For Lee, the appeal of the industry remains clear. “The marine industry combines technical challenge with real-world impact,” he says. “Marine products support experiences, livelihoods and industries, so there is a real sense of purpose in getting things right.”
As the sector continues to evolve, Lee’s focus will be on ensuring Barrus remains at the forefront, connecting engineering expertise with commercial strategy to help bring new innovations successfully to market.
