The new Mercury Diesel 3.0L 270hp makes its UK debut at Southampton

The new Mercury 3.0L 270hp diesel engine will make its debut at Southampton as part of a new line of 3.0L common-rail high-speed diesel engines for sterndrive, inboard and water-jet applications, available in 230 and 270hp power options.
The 3.0L engines deliver exceptional performance, acceleration and top speed, all made possible via a new water-cooled variable geometry turbocharger design (VGT). This matched system, plus a state-of-the-art engine control system, provides reduced time to plane and outstanding overall performance.
Mercury has subjected the engines to intensive testing including ‘accelerated life’ tests that exposed the engines to greater rigours than those that any customer would experience under normal operation.
“This new line of Mercury Diesel engines are extremely reliable and durable and satisfy the market demand for diesel power in these key horsepower categories,” commented Robert Plant, Divisional Manager for the Marine Diesel Division at Barrus. “Ideally suited to 30-35ft cruisers, and RIBs around 9m, these engines offer impressive low-end torque and exceptional durability.”
Mercury Diesel’s 3.0L engine is fully compatible with Mercury SmartCraft technologies providing users instant access to a broad array of engine-related information and measurements, as well as maintenance alerts and troubleshooting guidance. They also integrate with Mercury’s Joystick Piloting for Inboards (JPI) and Joystick Piloting for Sterndrives (JPS), giving the boater enhanced manoeuvring control.
