Wilkinson Sword’s new Ultralight Digging Spade has scooped the award for best new product in GIMA’s Garden Tools, Machinery and Implements category.
At just 1.2kg, the spade is 40% lighter than traditional alternatives, reducing user strain when digging for long periods. Its rust-resistant stainless steel blade has a serrated edge to help break up even heavier soils with minimal effort. It has an ergonomically designed ‘D’ handle that fits comfortably in the hand.
The spade is one of 15 products in Wilkinson Sword’s Ultralight collection – a range of tools developed to meet the needs of all gardeners who find traditional tools heavy and allowing people with all physical abilities, and of all ages, to enjoy gardening for longer.
The Garden Industry Manufacturer’s Association (GIMA) represents the majority share of suppliers and manufacturers operating within the UK gardening industry and the GIMA awards are recognised as the garden industry event of the year. Open to suppliers of products being sold within the garden retail sector, the annual event recognises excellence in new products, marketing and exporting.
The full Ultralight collection is available with a 360-degree bespoke, free-standing merchandising display unit. Products are grouped according to garden tasks allowing the entire range and supporting point of sale material to engage the customer.
Mark Hewett, Wilkinson Sword’s divisional sales manager, explained: “We are thrilled to receive this award from GIMA. The Ultralight range is proving extremely popular with all age groups of gardeners and this award is testimony to the detail that has gone into the design of all the products.”
