Jamie McNicol

Jamie McNicol

Sales Engineer

The Start: Jamie joined for a placement year from university while studying motorsport engineering. He began as an R&D Technician working on marine engine projects.

The Journey: He progressed from outboard mechanic to supervising inboard engine production and becoming an ISO internal auditor. Today, he promotes the Hybrid Marine brand across the UK and Ireland.

Development: "I’ve had various training, from technical supplier courses to management training. I’m currently undertaking a Team Leader apprenticeship accredited by the CMI."

KEY TO SUCCESS: "A willingness to learn and being dependable."

Business Process Coordinator

The Start: Ben started on a temporary contract picking and packing in the Garden Tools warehouse after his A-Levels.

The Journey: His warehouse experience led to a role in Business Processes, where he now implements Warehouse Management Systems across the company and supports backend IT infrastructure.

Development: "I’ve completed a ‘train the trainer’ course and gained my FLT licence. I love the people and the opportunities I have been given."

KEY TO SUCCESS: "Patience, teamwork, and dedication."

Rachael O'Mara

Rachael O’Mara

Apprentice Workshop Mechanic

The Start: After a career in management, Rachael chose to start fresh in engineering. She found Barrus through The Engineering Trust.

The Journey: She began in the Dynamometer test cell, learning to load 600kg+ engines. She has now moved to the production line, working on modifications and wiring.

Development: "I can now look after the Dyno room without supervision. I love the work-life balance—working in retail previously makes you appreciate bank holidays!"

KEY TO SUCCESS: "Organised, reliable, and able to adapt to quick changes."

Jon Bebb

Jon Bebb

R&D Engineer

The Start: Jon completed a student placement while studying at Oxford Brookes. Barrus supported him while he finished his Master's Degree.

The Journey: Now a full-time R&D Engineer, he covers design, CAD, 3D printing, and testing across multiple divisions.

What he loves: "The variety. I'm not just in the office; I go out, test the products, and meet customers. Every day is different."

KEY TO SUCCESS: "Problem solving and good communication."

Agi Borysiuk

Agi Borysiuk

Demand & Forecast Planner

The Start: Moving from Poland in 2014 with a Master's in Business, Agi joined as a Sales Administrator in Spare Parts.

The Journey: She moved into her target field of purchasing in 2017 and was promoted to her current planner role in the Marine Equipment Division in 2019.

Development: "Barrus supported my aspirations. I've completed forecasting courses and am now working on my CIPS Advanced Certificate."

KEY TO SUCCESS: "Attention to detail and a proactive approach."
