Lead Dynamometer Technician
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Lead Dynamometer Technician to take ownership of our marine engine dynamometer test facility. This is a specialist technical role where you will play a critical part in ensuring our engines meet the highest standards of performance, safety, and quality.

In this hands-on technical role, you will:
- Oversee full engine installation and setup within the dynamometer test cell, ensuring accurate mechanical and electrical connections.
- Operate and programme the dynamometer system to run break‑in, performance, validation, and durability test cycles.
- Collect, analyse, and document engine test data to verify performance against specification.
- Maintain a clean, safe, fully compliant test cell environment and ensure all equipment is secure and functioning correctly.
- Respond to and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control system faults, minimising downtime.
- Manage annual external calibration of all key dyno equipment.
- Train and mentor an assigned apprentice and support new starters.
- Drive continuous improvement across testing processes, safety, documentation, and equipment capability.
- Carry out general duties including accurate time recording.
We’re looking for someone who has:
Essential Experience & Skills
- 5+ years’ experience operating and maintaining engine dynamometers (marine experience desirable).
- Expertise in marine engine diagnostics, testing, and data interpretation.
- Strong mechanical, electrical, and control systems troubleshooting skills.
- Proficiency with dynamometer control and data acquisition systems.
- Experience training or mentoring technical staff.
- Solid understanding of HSE requirements and quality standards.
- Knowledge of 2 and 4 stroke petrol and diesel engines.
- Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
- Basic IT skills.
Desirable
- Experience with process improvement initiatives.
- Familiarity with engineering or R&D testing environments.
Qualifications
- Vocational qualification or equivalent experience in Mechanical, Automotive, or Marine Engineering Technology.
